Are Cute Condoms Really The Key To Safe Sex?

There are condoms for pretty much every occasion in the bedroom. You want to last that little bit longer? You’ve got it, as there are extra thick condoms and some with a numbing lube inside of them to delay your orgasm. Maybe you hope to give her more pleasure? Some condoms have ribs and dots on to help you get her screaming your name. What do these condoms all have in common? They help you to have fun but safe sex.

The issue is that some people feel strange about buying condoms, or they simply don’t like them. To some people, they hate the feel of them on their cocks, and they prefer how sensitive and intense it feels without them. Of course, if you don’t use condoms, you run the risk of catching an STI or an STD… which is definitely not the way you want to end your sex session. Hence why safe sex is so important.
We know we don’t have to tell you how important safe sex is, but there are people out there keen to encourage us to wrap up and have some good clean fun in the bedroom. How are they encouraging us to do this? Well, it seems that cute condoms are the latest trend.

Creating cute condoms

Some people believe that the reason a lot of people don’t enjoy safe sex is because the thought of buying condoms is unappealing. Some people get embarrassed about buying them, while others think that they are so unattractive that they just don’t want to buy them. For years you have been able to buy condoms in different colours, but now, one company is hoping that we will start buying condoms with a difference. They have created condoms that are covered in images of food.
Oops condoms are hoping that, by putting images of food on the condoms, they will make women more interested in buying them. Ye Wu, the lead of the project, said that “in convenience stores, it’s still mostly men who buy [condoms]”, as women are pretty “embarrassed about it”. So, they have made them look cute.
The condoms have a range of designs for you to enjoy. They have everything from cucumbers and kiwis to sushi and cupcakes. Yes, really. You can make your cock look like a giant chocolate cupcake. Why? Well, we aren’t too sure of that one.
Now, this isn’t just a novelty. Launched in Taiwan, with the hope of going international soon, Ye Wu spoke about the reasoning behind condoms covered in food: “Taiwanese people love cute things”, she said, when talking about the fact that a lot of women finding buying condoms embarrassing. “We thought that, if we made cute condoms, we could change that.”

Vegetables as measurements for your cock

It was back in September last year that we first started talking about the fact that food and condoms were starting to mix. The Guan-Hao Pan team decided to tackle one of the big problems facing those buying condoms, and that is the fit.
The fit can lead to a lot of issues in the bedroom… the primary problem being that they can slide off or tear during sex. If the condom is too tight, it is likely to tear which renders it useless for protecting against STIs, STDs, and pregnancy. The alternative is that they are too loose, and so they can slip off in the heat of the moment. Again, this means that the condom is no longer protecting you.
For Guan-Hao Pan, the solution was simple. Instead of selling condoms based on the different things they can do, like tingle, cool, warm, etc., he decided that condoms should instead be sold be size… and the most universal way of measuring is by using vegetables.
The packets of condoms come in tubes shapes like different fruits, like bananas, zucchini, and carrots. You then simply choose the one that best matches the size of your cock. By choosing the condoms that best suit the length and width of your dick, you are making sure that your safe sex stays safe, by avoiding tears and loose condoms slipping off.

Designer condoms

The Oops team and the Guan-Hao Pan group are not the only ones to decide that we need nice looking condoms to get people more interested in buying them and using them for safe sex. If you have thought of it being on a condom, the chances are that they already exist… it is just a case of finding them.
Some of the popular novelty condoms you can buy come wrapped in foils that have been carefully designed. Star Wars fans will be pleased to know that you can get one that says “I will not be your father” on them… and you can even buy glow in the dark ones. You know, for those moments when you are struggling to find a dick in the dark and want to pretend that your cock is a lightsaber.
There are also companies out there who believe that putting pretty patterns on the condoms themselves will go a long way. They see them “as the new jewellery” for intimacy, and while they can be quite pricey (a twin pack will cost just under 115 Norwegian krone), they are proving to be popular, as the company Made In Love are continuing to make design after design. They basically make your cock look like a sexy tattoo sleeve… which you probably won’t see a lot of the time because it will be in a nice, wet hole.
Last year, I asked if the designers of condoms were going too far, and given the number of new condoms that have been released since, I think it is safe to say that we really are taking things too far.

Encouraging safe sex or simply gimmicks?

People are currently ranting and raving about these new types of condoms. They are sure that they will make the difference in the world, and that people will start to take their sexual health that little bit more seriously. However, for a lot of people, they aren’t so sure that this will be enough. Will making condoms look cute really make people want to buy them more, or is it just a gimmick to get people talking about the subject?
If it is just a gimmick to get people talking about sexual health, then we can’t deny that it is working. People are talking about the subject, discussing whether we need new designer condoms like this, and whether they will really be enough to change things. They are also talking about the fact that, for some people, they just want to have something attractive to look at on a cock.
Personally, I couldn’t care less what the condom looks like. If it glows in the dark, if it has a nice spiral pattern on it, or if it is just a plain colour, I’m not too fussed… as long as it does its job. Is it just me, or do you agree on this one?
